Character Biography

character information.
NAME: Sophie Finucan
JOURNAL: [info]spirituel
AGE/BIRTHDAY: 25 ; August 15, 1985
SPECIES: Human.
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: None.
PLAY BY: Imogen Poots
DETAILED PERSONALITY: Her personality is one of contradictory themes and mindsets, which some would call not being true to herself, but which Sophie instead refers to as trying to please everyone and herself. Sophie has been thought by most (and sometimes continues to be) as a "scared little girl." She has no idea where this misconception came from, and is anything but. Sophie longs for bigger and better things, which causes her to drift quite frequently, whether it be from town to town, job to job. Everything she does is in the pursuit of greatness. Perhaps, that's where the assumption that she's scared comes from. She's not running - she's searching.

She has a big heart and is kind to a fault, which almost contradicts her career choice. As ambitious as she is, she would rather lend a helping hand than further advance her own wants and needs. She has a sunny disposition which is not easily dampened, which she often uses to advantage in any situation that may present itself.

Sophie is hesitant to get close to people, but only because she worries about hurting them. She is practically married to her work, and she feels that it does not leave her enough time for friends or a significant other. She does have, and has had, those things, but with people who have deeply understood that they will likely always come second to whatever article or piece she is writing.
THEME SONG: Secret Meeting - The National
HISTORY: The first years of Sophie’s life were ideal to the point where when she became old enough to begin to appreciate it she absolutely detested it.

Born and raised in the small neighbourhood of Newcastle in Miramichi, New Brunswick, Sophie was never unappreciated of her upbringing, but it lacked excitement. Once upon a time, Newcastle had been a very prosperous community, but with the closing of the paper and pulp mills and the shutting down of Canadian Forces Base Chatham across the Miramichi River life in Newcastle began to mirror that of smaller towns across Atlantic Canada. Sophie’s father, Herbert, had worked at the Heath Steele Mines until its closure in 1999. Upon losing his job at the mines, he began working at the local liquor store. Her mother, Noreen, was a teacher at Croft Elementary School in neighbouring Douglastown. The family never needed or wanted for anything, and while times were occasionally rough, they kept their optimistic attitudes about them.

The problem with Newcastle was that there was really nothing to do in one’s spare time. When Sophie was younger she had played with childhood friends, but as they grew older, and their imaginations waned, it became increasingly difficult to find any excitement outside of hanging out at the small strip mall a stone’s throw away from the bridge. Sophie longed for the sort of excitement that her friends were for whatever reasons, hesitant to embrace, and found solace in books and writing. She had watched older children, family friends, grow up, get married, and eventually fall into the same boring routines that she and her family had. It wasn’t for her.

Upon graduating from high school, Sophie enrolled at St. Thomas University in Fredericton. The girl packed her bags, and aside from visiting her family during the holidays and summer breaks, never returned to Newcastle again. At St. Thomas, Sophie majored in Journalism and Communications, doing her internship at a local CBC broadcasting centre. She didn’t graduate at the top of her class, but came relatively close. She was pleased to take her degree and face the next step in her journey – getting out of New Brunswick.

Since graduating from St. Thomas University, Sophie has spent time in Montréal, writing for independent newspapers and smaller publications. She’s never enjoyed staying in one place for too long, having gotten her fill doing so in Newcastle, and prefers to do work freelance. She always set her sights high, eager to work hard at wherever she happened to be located, but anticipating the next step in her journey. During a trip to Washington with friends from university (one of her mates was eager to see the Seattle Seahawks), news broke out of goings on in the Cove. Sophie was no stranger to safe havens for supernaturals, she’d worked closely with some lycans and fey during her time at an arts magazine in Montréal, but the circumstances of the news were what was so alarming to her. Lycans, vampires, and even humans going missing, and those were things that Sophie was not accustomed to. The safe havens were safe for a reason ... weren't they? Who would do such things?

When her friends returned to Canada, Sophie stayed, applying for a working visa and taking up residence in the Cove. There was a story that needed to be told to the world, should they want to listen, and Sophie would be damned if it wasn’t her that told it.

player information.
NAME: Megan
AGE STATEMENT: I’ve taken to calling people under the age of 20 “kids,” while side-eying their taste in music, fashion, and popular culture. This, of course, also while muttering under my breath that “kids have no manners or respect these days,” and looking back fondly on memories of quality Saturday morning cartoons. In short, I am over the age of 18.

ANYTHING ELSE: Where Sophie is attempting to uncover what is happening in the Cove, I don't anticipate that she wouldn't get herself into trouble often, and would likely be both well and ill received by other characters. I am pretty open to any ideas that anyone may have that could potentially involve her in some capacity.
